Baby Iggy Update:

A couple of weeks ago Baby Iggy's mic-key button started leaking a lot so we took him to the E.R. and they changed the button.

The next day, Saturday it was still leaking so I took him again.

The E.R doctor was actually getting frustrated with me for not being able to tell her why he was discharged with a mic-key button when he wasn't using it, so she had to step out and retrieve his file from CHOC.

She came back with a completely different attitude and told me baby Iggy was a miracle and she could only guess that the doctors were uneasy about removing his button because according to his file and notations on his brain damage, he shouldn't be able to eat and breathe on his own, so it's difficult to match up that file with the healthy boy they see in front of him and to be the one to sign off on removing it should there be complications.

But since the situation changed and it was leaking she told me that it wasn't really worthwhile to try and figure out why the button wasn't working when he wasn't using it, and advised me to make an appointment with his pediatrician to ask about removing it.

Between getting the appointment, getting the authorization to see the pediatric surgeon from the insurance, and getting the actual appointment to see the surgeon it took two weeks.

And we had to switch surgeons because our insurance changed and the original doctor that performed his tummy surgeries wasn't covered anymore.

AND the receptionist gave me the wrong address to the surgeon so when I showed up the office they informed me that he was no longer at that office, and he switched to one a county away.

So I book it and make the new appointment time they gave me (a whole 25 minutes later!).

Once we're finally in, the surgeon asks for a summarized version of events, and then plucks out the mic-key button and tells me it will take up to 6 weeks for it to close on its own, and to keep it tightly covered with gauze in the meantime.

Basically ..... I COULD HAVE DONE THAT MYSELF WEEKS AGO!!!

How annoying is our healthcare system?
